What is the task deadline?

Defining the task deadline feels obvious however there are a few options, lets discuss them here as the deadline plays an important part in the status of tasks. Remember the deadline is shown in the Tasks app and will determine various other factors such as the status of the task card (which will move to ‘overdue’ if the task is not completed in time).

ASAP

The first option is ASAP (As Soon As Possible) this means that the moment the task is assigned to a user the deadline becomes that date and time. You can set a quantity of time after the start time with which the task then becomes overdue but having an ASAP deadline is typically reserved for super important projects which need immediate attention.

Linked to Start Time

It may be that you want the window of your task to be set based on when it can be started. So for instance if your task is a turnover clean linked to bookings and your start time is the check-out time (ie 10am) and you know you need the property cleaned before the next arrival (assuming your check-in time is 4pm), you could choose to nominate the deadline as being 6 hours after start time to ensure the task is completed prior to the next guest arrival. Alternatively a guest may have called you with a maintenance request and has stated they need the item fixed before they get back from their day trip so you know you have a 2 hour window for an asap task to be completed.

Specific

This option is only available for single One-Off tasks. As the name sounds, this option allows you to nominate a specific date and time on which the deadline will be set.

No Deadline

The last option is to opt not to set a deadline. This would mean that no deadline is shown in the task app which can remove the urgency around a task. It will also mean the task status cannot change (to eg ‘Overdue’) as there will be nothing to indicate when it should move to that. It’s rare to use this option but occasionally needed.
